The last major element of Old Town Alexandria's waterfront plan has finally found the Alexandria City Council's approval this past weekend. According to Washington Business Journal, the Council voted unanimously in favor for the planned redevelopment on Robinson Terminal North to move forward. Developers City Interests and Rooney Properties plan on building 66 multi-family units, a 132-room hotel, 25,000-square-feet of retail, and up to four restaurants. The two-building development will also feature recessed bays, fritted glass, and a two-story pavilion. When the design process for this project began in May 2014, the early designs were described as "frenetically and distractingly random" and "lacking the orderly quality ... of Alexandria." The finished designs that were revealed this past February were later compared to the Sydney Opera House. The project is expected to take 24 to 30 months to complete.
