Swanky Classroom-Turned-Condo Asks $1.7M in Capitol Hill

In the Bryan School Lofts, what were once classrooms are now luxurious condos with 16-foot-high ceilings, expansive windows, cherrywood flooring, and high-end stainless steel appliances. This recently listed penthouse in the Capitol Hill development is asking $1.699 million and offers two bedrooms over a total of 2,377-square-feet. Some of the major highlights inside include its private outdoor "entertaining rooms," beamed ceilings, and exposed brick walls. Before this Capitol Hill residential development was built, it was known as the Thomas Barbour Bryan Elementary School. The school was constructed around 1906, was run solely by women, and served only the white community. Almost 100 years later, Washington, D.C.-based Abdo Development converted the four-story historic landmark into 20 condos. Before its conversion in 2004, the property sat vacant for approximately 20 years. This is the second listing Curbed discovered this week that is located in a converted century-old schoolhouse.
