First Look at Sleek Solar Condos Going Up Near H Street NE

Construction has begun on 17 Solar, a group of 26 futuristic-looking, solar-powered townhouse condos from District Development Group near the H Street corridor at 17th Street NE between D and E streets, reports UrbanTurf. Expect big-yet-energy-efficient glass windows, Energy Star appliances and sustainable finishes (cork kitchen floors, bamboo cabinets) and, of course, solar-paneled roofs — cocked at a jaunty, ray-catching angle. LEED Certification is pending, too. Units include first-floor, 2-bed, 2-bath flats and upper-floor 3-bed, 3.5-bath two-level lofts. In phase one, there will be nine market-rate two-level condos starting at $599,000 and nine affordable flats for candidates making 80 percent of the area median income.
