Commenter Meghan wasn't too far off the mark, guessing the 1922 image of a gas station sat at 19th Street and Dupont Circle. But this fill-er-up was actually nearby at 17th and L streets NW, now a busy corridor of office behemoths with coffee spots on both sides of 17th, a bank and no Exxon or BP in sight. That's the dome of the Cathedral of St. Matthew in the distance, where 1920s drivers could have parked their cars and attended mass, perhaps praying they wouldn't get in a wreck on the way home. -Jenn Barger
