Gentrification Watch

New York-based Gawker doesn't write about Washington D.C. neighborhoods regularly, but they used quite a few pixels to talk about how the shiny, new Safeway on Georgia Avenue is the ultimate sign that gentrification has arrived in Petworth. The local residents with whom the reporter spoke gave mixed reviews regarding the prices at the revamped grocer and questioned whether this is an asset for the entire neighborhood.
