Pop-ups are not necessarily the most visually attractive architecture trend in D.C. and perhaps that's why one neighborhood blogger has noticed a trend wherein the Historic Preservation Review Board has encouraged enterprising renovators to build out rather than up. What's more, the three horizontal add-ons that have been approved in the past two months resemble the carriage houses that were popular additions to District homes at the turn of the century.
