Trumps Whisk Into D.C. for Ceremonial Hotel Groundbreaking

New, 6 comments

The Trump media circus returned to D.C. this morning for the ceremonial groundbreaking of the anticipated Trump Hotel in the Old Post Office Building. Several members of the D.C. City Council were on hand, The Washington Ringing Society arrived to ring the clock tower bells (for the final time until the hotel's opening), and Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton even commented that four members of the Trump had arrived for the event.

"I don't know if they all come out for everything that Donald Trump does," quipped the Congresswoman before saying how nice it was to see sons Donald and Eric and daughter Ivanka at the event along with their father.

The event was decidedly shorter than last fall's lease signing and Congressman John Mica's "speech" was merely, "Thank you, Donald Trump." However, the mood was decidedly reverent to both the Trumps and to the historic building that they would soon inhabit. Congresswoman Norton spoke with relief that the "ugly duckling" of Pennsylvania Avenue would be restored to its former glory, Ivanka and Donald's speeches were primarily peppered with gratitude to everyone involved and the ever-enthusiastic Mayor Vince Gray pointed out that this would also be the closest hotel to the Wilson Building. After all, everyone knows that the building that houses City Council Headquarters is...quite the tourist attraction? Take a look at some more photos from the event after the jump.
