Fort Totten is one of those neighborhoods that many people only know from the inside of the metro station since it's a transfer point between the Red, Green and Yellow Lines. However, with new developments like the Wal-Mart anchored Fort Totten Square and Art Place at Fort Totten coming to the area, South Dakota Avenue might not be empty for long. As such, it's entirely possible that this mural, which dates back to Adrian Fenty's mayoral term, has remained relatively unknown. However, it's called "Life Creates Music" and it was painted by Joel Bergner and Rashad Cuffee with the help of Nick Cuffee and Carlos Taylor. This splash of color was in fact commissioned by the D.C. Commission on the Arts & Humanities and the D.C. Department of Public Works. And at least for the time being, it's one of Fort Totten's brightest spots.
