Northern Virginia's time without a dedicated children's museum is almost over. By 2019, Children's Science Centers will have taken root in both Fairfax and Dulles. Fairfax's smaller 5,400 square foot space called The Lab will open in Fair Oaks Mall by the middle of next year. This interactive museum will have a Tinkering Studio which should bring back fond memories of the Discovery Channel Store (aka, the best store that existed in any mall) as well as Exploration Stations and an Experiment Bar for more involved scientific play. There's even a special area for preschoolers and toddlers. The full scale museum in Dulles' Kincora development will stand at a much larger 53,000 square feet and open in 2019. That location is no coincidence, as several jobs in Northern Virginia are already science and technology-related. "We have achieved our long-time goal to be located within the Dulles region, where families and high-tech industry partners are plentiful, and where we can offer a regional resource serving multiple jurisdictions in Northern Virginia and beyond," said the Children's Science Center Executive Director, Nene Spivy in a press release.
