Your GPS (or personal experience) can relay how long it will take to get from point A to point B, but this interactive map courtesy of Isoscope gives a really pretty sense of the range of where one can travel in a certain time frame. Here's how it works. Pick a starting point in your city. Then pick a day of the week and a time frame ranging from two to ten minutes. Then scroll over the hours of the day and watch the travel area expand and contract. If you so desire to see how far you could walk in that time frame, a royal blue splotch will appear in the middle. The gallery above shows how this map works with starting points in Park View, Glover Park and Navy Yard. Unsurprisingly, Navy Yard, which is the closest to the Interstate, has the widest range of the three neighborhoods, with tentacles sprouting out in the directions of the freeway. Shockingly, in all three cases, the time in which it's possible to move the farthest from any given point is around 7:00-8:00 a.m. which is during morning rush hour. Of course, afternoon rush hour is a different story. Have fun with this map and say goodbye to any semblance of productivity this morning.
