The D.C. taxicabs' transition to a fleet that universally accepts credit cards is still not complete. Last month, several hundred cabbies had to go temporarily cash-only due to problems with a payment service provider, but it seems some cabbies have (illegally) taken matters of credit card payment into their own hands and used the app Square to process patrons' payments by plastic.
