Parkside Plan to Begin Construction on Affordable Housing

Developments have been popping up east of the Anacostia River with plans to transform Parkside into a bustling community. Already, 2,000 residential units, 50,000-square-feet of retail, and a park are all planned with more developments on the way. In the words of Peter Farrell, managing partner of CityInterests LLC, "The purpose is to build a whole new community with schools, retail, great quality housing stock, and commercial in an area ... that had been overlooked for a long time." Now, an affordable housing development, called The Grove at Parkside, will soon begin construction for 186 apartments, ranging from studios to one-, two-, and three-bedroom units. There will also be 65 parking spaces.

The development is part of a $750 million master plan meant to revitalize the community with 3.1 million-square-feet of developments. The affordable housing development will be targeted towards those making 30 percent to 60 percent of the area median income. Located at 600 Kenilworth Terrace NE, the estimated date of completion for the construction of this new development is expected to be 16 months after the start date.
