Washington, D.C. is one of the most bicycle friendly communities in the nation. In a recently released list, the League of American Bicyclists awarded over 300 communities in all 50 states either a gold, silver, or bronze ranking. Among those listed included Arlington and Alexandria, both silver, and Baltimore and Bethesda, both bronze. Each ranking assesses the enforcement on ensuring roads are safe for bicyclists, the number of convenient places to ride and park bicycles, the access to education on how to ride, the engagement of the bike culture, and the evaluation and planning of bicycling as a viable transportation option.
