Arlington is canceling any plans for the Columbia Pike streetcar. While Virginia committed $550 million to the long-planned streetcar, residents wondered if the project would be too expensive to continue. Already, millions of dollars have been spent just planning the project. Arlington County Board member John Vihstadt said, "A streetcar makes no sense for Arlington from either a transit efficacy or an economic-development perspective." If the Columbia Pike streetcar had been built, it would have run from the Skyline area of Fairfax to the Crystal City Metro stop. [WaPo]
