While the cost of driving is falling, it's time to encourage public transportation, according to Metro Chairman Tom Downs. Downs is pushing to adjust the maximum subsidy for public transit benefits from $130 a month to $250 a month, which would be closer to the parking benefit. "It does not seem to make much sense to have a $120 a month difference between the benefits of driving and parking versus the benefits of taking transit," Downs says. For now, the debate on this won't begin until the new year. [WAMU]
