Finally, something to get rid of the long lines to get a fare card. On Thursday, the Metro unveiled new fare gates at the Gallery Place station that accept payments electronically through contactless credit cards, mobile wallets, or smartphones. To be one of the 3,000 riders to be able to test out this new pilot program in January 2015, apply here. The fare gates will be located at 10 stations and on six bus routes. [DCist; previously]
