More Metro Excitement! 7000-series Makes Debut in Greenbelt

[Photo by Flickr user Mr. T in DC]

Here's more proof that Metro actually is, to quote its ad campaign, moving forward: the brand new 7000-series cars are making their first test run. D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray and Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley, among others, will take a test ride on these new cars leaving Greenbelt. The ceremonial proceedings start in fifteen minutes! This newest series of train cars will start service at the end of the year as 300 1000-series cars from the 1970s are phased out. Maryland readers, if any of you happen to be at the Greenbelt station at or around 10:30 a.m. (so...very soon) see if you can snap a photo and send it to our tipline. Same for those of you anywhere on the Green Line this morning who see the shiny new train cars.
