Check Out This Old Photo of Benning Road in 1945

In 2014, there's a streetcar track running down the intersection where H Street NE becomes Benning Road. In the early 1900s, there was even a terminal at this intersection of 15th and H Street NE for a streetcar line between D.C. and Baltimore. However, in 1945 when this photo was taken, looking eastward toward Benning Road, motorcars rule the streets. There's one vehicle in the deep background that could potentially be a streetcar...or a bus. Meanwhile, most if not all of the buildings in this photo look nothing like the apartment building, CVS and gas station there today. However, heading down Maryland Avenue at this intersection will lead toward some rowhouses that were almost certainly around at the time of this snapshot.
