Lone D.C. Log Cabin's Journey from Meridian Hill to Rock Creek

Visitors to the right nook of Rock Creek Park may have noticed a log cabin, the only one of its kind in the city. However, that cabin which used to belong to poet Joaquin Miller, was previously located on the edge of what is now Meridian Hill Park. Miller lived in the cabin in the 1880s before moving to Oakland, California. When Henry White, the American ambassador to France wanted to develop the property and demolish the cabin roughly twenty-five years after Miller had vacated, preservationists fought to have the structure moved to Rock Creek Park where it has stood since 1912. It appears that the photo was taken before the move.
