From Skate Club to Apartments: The Conversion of Fight Club

Seventy apartments will soon stand in a space once dominated by an underground skate park. Groundbreaking will occur in August for an apartment building at 1250 9th Street NW...a stone's throw from City Market at O. An interior garden courtyard is about as far removed as one can get from a wooden bowl made of plywood, which is what the warehouse known as Fight Club in adjacent Blagden Alley had formerly housed. Fight Club (which opened in 2004) closed briefly in 2007 then closed permanently in 2010. Meanwhile, the new building developed by CAS Riegler and CityInterests will have a restaurant and retail on the first floor — also a far cry from the unlimited beer for which Fight Club's frequent evening shows had gained notoriety.
