Is Georgia Avenue the New Construction Corridor?

[Rendering of new Silver Spring property via CoStar Group Inc.]

There's already a giant crane living on the corner of Georgia and Randolph Avenue NW in the monstrous pit where the new Safeway's going to be. Now, just today there's news of two more coming developments further up the Avenue at the edge of the District and into Silver Spring. First, we found out that Douglas Development is bringing a 220 room apartment building plus Harris Teeter to the top corner of the District at Georgia Avenue NW and Eastern Avenue. That area is currently a vacant lot, but used to host a strip club called Shepherd Park several decades ago. On the other end of the spectrum, Washington Property Company bought property on Georgia Avenue that had belonged to a church, Bethel World Outreach Ministries International. The plans for that building are still in the vague category of office building, residence or hotel.
