The DC public housing waiting list is so severely overloaded that a resident seeking a one-bedroom apartment can expect to wait 28 years. Insane. One report says that part of the problem is the "perpetually open" list, which now means they're just closing it entirely. Will a last minute panic push the wait to 30 years? Is there any point in signing up at all? There are 70,000 names on the list now and they will stop taking new ones April 12.
