D.C. has decided on five development teams out of an initial nine of who may bid for the right to lead the 67-acre redevelopment of land previously occupied by the Walter Reed Army Medical Center campus. If this sounds like an episode of [Insert Reality Competition Show Here] to you, it will sound more like one after seeing the development teams' credentials. Hoping for a chance at the redevelopment are Forest City Washington of The Yards fame, Walter Reed Associates LLC, comprising The Wilkes Co., Capstone Development LLC, Quadrangle Development Corp. known for the Washington Marriott Marquis (as well as the long name), Hines Interests LP/Urban Atlantic Joint Venture, who are responsible for the massive CityCenter project, Western Development Corp., the folks who built Georgetown Park and Roadside Development LLC, whose progress we've tracked on the CityMarket at O. These five companies will be bidding for the right to an enormous development project that not only includes permanent houses, townhouses, condominiums and office space, but two charter schools and some potential arts and entertainment use. Might we suggest a bowling alley?
