The hotel that was going to be an office building at 400 E Street SW has some new renderings to show off before the meeting with community members next week. The top floors will be reserved for 214 hotel rooms but the ground floor will have the unlikely mix of a fire station for Engine Co. 13, the afterschool program KidPower, and the food distribution network DC Central Kitchen. It has been about four years since the site was released by the DC government for development and the chosen company, E Street Development, say they might break ground as early as April of this year. The reason for the long delay is a combination of getting approval for the land use, finding financing, and making sure the project met the city's criteria of creating permanent jobs and finding a home for Engine Co. 13 at no cost to the city.
