A segment on the latest Portlandia episode might have been inspired by a local guy named Caleb who makes wood furniture. Caleb Woodard (yes, that's really his highly-appropriate name) quit his day job to wear plaid shirts and hang around with belt sanders all day—as DC By Design Blog learned in a profile of him a while back. DCist figured out there might be a connection to the show via actor Carrie Brownstein's bandmate Mary Timony who is originally from DC.
