In 1958, preparation was already well underway for the freeway between Southeast and Southwest D.C. Based on the blank spaces, it's easy to draw a line where the raised roadway will go. Still, it's a little eerie to look at this photo of Southwest at a time when the earlier buildings (and streets) had been wiped out and the signature freeway had not started construction. The only things standing there are some foundation blocks.
