The tenant/landlord relationship can be a rocky one, but these three apartment complexes have taken time out to show a little appreciation to their renters in unique and special ways, including the occasional much-needed cocktail. After spending some time with complaints and horror stories, here's to some buildings that make renting fun.
The Woodner: The complex shows appreciation to its renters through a myriad of programs that occur year round. On Tuesday, a Mary Kay consultant gave residents free facials and complimentary gifts. "Most of our events take place from 4:00-7:00 p.m., we catch the crowd coming from work," says Crystal Hanna, resident services manager. Today, the building invited a representative from Enterprise to educate residents on the company's car-share program. A lot of the residents don't have cars, so this is a nice opportunity for them to rent cars on the weekends, she says.
360 H Street: This fairly new apartment building hosts a new event each month, as a way to build community amongst residents. Today, 360 hosted Breakfast on the Go. The event lasted from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m., and featured typical continental breakfast fare of doughnuts, bagels and juice. In addition, residents on the run were able to brown bag it. These events give the residents a chance to mingle as well as something to look forward to, says Carlesa Washington, resident concierge.
Flats at Atlas: This week marks the complex's Resident Appreciation Week and luckily for tenants, it's chock full of booze. On Monday the building hosted a breakfast and gave out vouchers for a free coffee at H Street Coffee. Tuesday and Wednesday included a happy hour with specialty cocktails and various giveaways. Today, the Flats ends the celebration with a beer tasting from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Residents may choose from 6 different beers and light snacks are included. The complex also hosts other events throughout the year.
