In 1940, This Theatre Stood In the Current Path of I-395

These days there is no F Street SW. Where that street would be is the current site of I-395. However, around 1940 when this photo was snapped, there was a movie theater called The Rosalia. The Rosalia was built by George Nelson in 1922, making this D.C.'s first theatre both built and run by an African-American. The 350 seat capacity theatre was named for his daughter who had passed away. The building was demolished in 1951.
