In 2013, the bay window is a commonly seen architectural element. However, those protruding windows have not always proliferated in D.C.'s buildings. In 1907, the Washington Times stated that this home at 618 H Street NE was the city's first with such windows (which are visible on the right side of the photo.) The home was built in 1855, almost sixty years before this photo was snapped. However, don't look for this home designed by Charles Follansbee there today. The home has since been demolished and the spot is sort of a dead zone between a take-out place and a beauty supply store.
