The Capitol Is Not Ready For Its Close-Up, Badly Needs Repairs

[Photos courtesy of Architects of the Capitol]

It's no wonder the Capitol Building is about to have scaffolding on its dome for two years. Not only are there cracks and rusting on the world-famous dome, but some of the decorative elements have actually fallen off. The Capitol's dome also dates back to the 1850s, making it around the same age as the Mall's other scaffolded landmark, The Washington Monument. Check out the extensive photo gallery above and the illusion of the Capitol as a pristine white building will vanish.
