How To Make Pink And Brown Work, By Designer Barry Dixon

[HouseBeautiful]

A Capitol Hill rowhouse that recently went on the market for $3.3M and is now $3.1M somehow makes two unlikely colors blend well together. Pink, meet brown. As was first reported by the Washington Post, the interior decor was carried out by local designer Barry Dixon and featured in House Beautiful in 2011. Above are a few of the pages from the magazine feature where Dixon goes into depth on the 'parfait of pinks' that balance out the masculine browns and explains he relied on blocks of color because, "rooms feel bigger when you don't have a lot of strong pattern." The 6 bed, 4.5 bath home is an 1885 creation by the same person who built the veep's official residence at the Naval Observatory and comes with a carriage house on top of the two-car garage.
