Fifty years ago street trolleys used to trundle through this 75,000 square feet of underground space beneath Dupont Circle, but now that it has sat empty for years a group of artists are working to try to get it turned into a 'world-class center for arts, design, and innovative entrepreneurship'. They have access that regular people don't have and they put together a video tour of the space using only flashlights for illumination and it sure looks like the perfect space for street trolleys. But one day there might be potters, painters, weavers, and other artsy types. You can get a sense of the tracks from the inset in the above picture which shows their outline as they exist under a very busy Dupont but once you see inside it's all eerie and desolate.
