There are a few hints of possible bad news in the latest numbers from RBI—the local company in charge of gathering the real estate data for the DC area. Usually there are more sales in December than November but last month sales actually fell by 6.6%. Is that the curse of low inventory or a sign of softening demand? It will take a month or two to know for sure, but since there were only 2,465 new listings entering the market in December which is the lowest ever for all the data on record (going back to 1997) the DMV needs to start praying for a busier spring.
