Picturing Where People In DC Take Pictures

Tourists don't really venture far from the Mall, do they? A computer programmer with a slight addiction to maps came up with a way to plot where Flickr photos are being taken and make an estimated guess as to whether the people were from DC or from out of town. Behold, you have the red rectangle-ish shape above that shows where tourists are taking pictures and the blue lines that make up where the rest of us do. This is part of artist Eric Fischer's Locals & Tourists Flickr set, which was featured at a MoMA exhibit a few years ago, but it is only one of his geotagged projects. He delves into other topics like language and social media, as well as misspelled streets signs.
