Tax Appraiser Tony L. George

New, 1 comment

The city's relatively new chief tax appraiser, Tony L. George, is having his own personal Groundhog Day. When he worked in Georgia—before being fired for lowering tax appraisals on commercial properties—he wasn't exactly Mr. Popular (the two women shown here were some of his staff who complained publicly). And now, here in DC, he is being investigated by the FBI for lowering the assessed values on 500 commercial properties. The combined value amounts to $2.6 billion, which is eight times the amount of last year. [WaPo]
