A Perc Rate Follow Up

Last week we shared a Lies People Tell story from a tipster about how a developer managed to sneak an escape clause into a contract by requiring the perc rate for a piece of land be unrealistically high. (Perc rate=how fast land drains water through the soil). Someone else has written in to tell us they know of more perc rate misdeeds by a couple who owned land that wouldn't drain fast enough.

They got around this by illegally dynamiting the ground in several places to loosen the soil. Of course the inspector that had measured the perc rate the first time around was going to wonder why the dirt was suddenly all broken up so the couple needed to make sure someone else came out to inspect the land. All that took was compensating someone they knew in the county to assign a different inspector to the case. See, it is as simple as that.
