South Bloomingdale, East Shaw, Northwest NoMa -- whatever you call it, it's actually Truxton Circle. This week we're in the neighborhood few know, but many have visited, to check out the rental scene in Truxton. Because the neighborhood is small inventory and selections are limited. And Truxton's location next to many burgeoning scenes, including NoMa and Mt. Vernon, mean rentals move fast and furious. (However, that's true of many spots in the city.) But after a bit of perusing, we did find a few options in Truxton that should satisfy many renters if they move quickly to seal the deal.
1. Somewhere on Bates St NW
Monthly Rent: $1,500
The Perks: OK, so this one is exactly $1,500, but we're going to let it slide because there aren't many rentals in this nabe right now. So for this sweet spot, you get an incredible 1,000 sq.ft. of living space, in-unit laundry, hardwood floors, and a lot of space. (We mentioned that, right?) And it's close to the Metro and practically everything else the area has to offer. We're going to bet this rental won't be available for another 48 hours unless there's some big catch that we don't know about.
2. 2nd & S St NW
Monthly Rent: $1,450 (inclusive)
The Perks: OK, so this one is technically in south Bloomingdale, but being only a block and a half from Truxton Circle makes it close enough for us. This listing is for an English basement with 600 sq.ft. of living space plus "plenty of closet space".
3. 403 Florida Ave NW
Monthly Rent: $1,250 (inclusive except electricity)
The Perks: Located on the southern part of LeDroit Park or the northern part of Truxton Circle (depending on where your neighborhood loyalties lie), this 1 bedroom rental is located just a few blocks from the Metro and on a major street making hopping on and off the bus a breeze. But the listing is confusing because it says "retail" but the picture shows a house. So you might actually be getting a small shop instead. Good luck.
