As a way to deviate from all the talk about red and blue states a website has put together two much more colorful maps of the states based on what they do best and worst (with an earthy bent, of course). Virginia has the lowest overall asthma rate, but highest ammonia pollution in water while Maryland has the most academic research funding (thank you, NIH?) but the worst access to clean freshwater. DC is left off the list, so that leaves it to us to figure out what we do better (and worse) than everyone else in the country. [MNN]
