House Beautiful Profiles The Makeover Of A DC Townhouse

The May issue of House Beautiful hits newsstands next week and one of their features is of a 1960s town house in DC by designers Hillary Thomas and Jeff Lincoln. The house was previously the home of political columnist Joseph Alsop and he frequently entertained the likes of John F. Kennedy and other dignitaries. The designers needed to keep the 'salon feel', but update it so it didn't feel like a time warp. They nodded to the patriotic colors of red, white, and blue but kept the tones subtle—like the muted rouge of the chandelier above turquoise tufted chairs. Mad Men fans will feel right at home. We have a few early pictures, but they don't include things like the pink solarium and gold dining room. For that check out the full spread next week.
