Lumen8Anacostia

While neighborhoods east of "the river" are often maligned, there are pockets of change to improve their images. On April 14, Lumen8Anacostia, a three-month arts program, will launch in the SE neighborhood of Anacostia and "create temporary art and culture spaces in 'emerging' neighborhoods where vacant and/or underutilized storefronts and empty lots will be transformed into art knolls". Jeffrey Herrell, a Lumen8Anacostia organizer and "ambassador for Anacostia", believes people erroneously assumes Anacostia is "everything east of the river" when it's just one part of SE, and Lumen8 will "bring light and understanding" to this misunderstood neighborhood.
