Chalk one up to the power of grassroots organizing. A week before Christmas the National Park Service informed the owner of Jack's Boat House that he had until the end of January to vacate the premises. Poor guy didn't have any idea that was going to be in his inbox and the DC community rallied to prevent it from happening. One Facebook page, hundreds of emails, and an unknown number of phone calls poured into the NPS director's office and he announced on Monday that Jack's Boat House didn't have to leave. The long term future of the operation is yet to be determined, but for now the staff get to keep their jobs.
