The AVA concept for apartment buildings has been around for a while, but we are mere weeks away from being able to see inside the first one for DC. This particular building is going all in with the social media experience by having a live Twitter wall in the lobby that is linked to hashtags and feeds that have to do with the H Street neighborhoods (open mic night at Big Board on Wednesday, kind of thing).
Besides the mesmerizing Twitter feed, the AVA concept features another dozen or so aspects designed for young people with bikes, many electrical gadgets, and a reluctance to let go of everything that came with living in a dorm room. Example: the doors to each unit have a frame where residents can change the picture to reflect their personality. Plus, many units have gear walls where the aforementioned bikes can hang and a utility center with a docking station for the endless gadgets that have taken over our lives. Residents can also borrow a DIY bucket from maintenance that comes with basic tools to hang pictures or repaint a wall in a preferred color (yes, that's allowed).
Hard hat tours are being offered now in anticipation of December move-ins and, crucially, the first ten people who move in before January 10th will get a $400 gift card to either Republic Bike or CB2.
