Five Holiday Rentals A Short Drive From DC

Rustic. Charming. Quaint. Call it what you will, when people want to get out of the city they want to go all the way back in time to when things were less hectic and less plugged in. Curbed found a few places within a few hours of the city that let the guests take life at a slower pace than usual. There is still electricity in case someone wants to charge their cell phone, but it isn't required. A few of these are from the Civil War era, including the very luxurious Poor Farm that got its name by taking in wives and children of Civil War soldiers. Then there's a couple in Maryland along the Eastern Shore for those who want to take to the water to shake their stresses out.
