In honor of Renters Week we've asked a few local celebrities about their first rental experience. Here is Jessica Louise Dye, lead singer of the homegrown band Lightfoot, on the place she lived as a college student.
"My first rental experience in DC was far from luxurious, but as a broke college student it was all I needed. I rented what can barely be described as a bedroom (it was basically a windowless closet) in Columbia Heights for $200 bucks a month. It was in a basement of a disgusting group house and felt like a prison cell. I stayed in that hole for nearly 11 months and it taught me to really appreciate going out more and to take advantage of all the free beautiful public spaces in DC."
