American Ice Company Cools Down The U St/Shaw Nabe

Welcome to Bar Crawl Living where we find some worthy domiciles within stumbling distance of a neighborhood hotspot. If there's a place you want us to scope out, leave a comment or send word to our tipline.

Throwing back a few cold ones in Mason jars sounds like a great way to make friends and check out the vibe of a nabe. Doing this with nearby garages, car repair shops, an incredible music venue, and a building with a certain lady justice living nearby...well, this can only happen at American Ice Company. A favorite hangout on V Street close to U, Shaw, and LeDroit, the bar brings together people of all stripes who are looking for a place to chill without pretensions. It's on the nexus of increasingly classy 14th Street and the burgeoning foodie scene at LeDroit Park. And since American Ice Co is close to so many up-and-coming scenes, there are digs to be had that will leave you with dollars to spend on another brew.

1. 1911 8th St NW
Asking Price: $429,650
Square Feet: 930
What It's All About: Dance the night away in this 2 bedroom, 1 bath condo. Located a "few blocks from Town" and "the rest of the U Street nightlife", this is a "big unit for the money". The unit has "loads of light" which a buyer may not care for after a night of getting down at Town.

2. 1724 6th St NW
Asking Price: $465,000
Square Feet: 1,127
What It's All About: Here's the opening: "Ideally located in booming Shaw neighborhood". Enough said? Well, here's more: "This well-maintained home has many updates, including central air, gas fireplace, and new kitchen & bathroom". It's a fantastic opportunity, especially if you have 2 cars that need parking.

3. 972 Florida Ave NW
Asking Price: $475,000
Square Feet: 728
What It's All About: So much hip style in such a small space. With awesome art and a cool, spiraling staircase, this 2 bedroom, 1 bath "condo alternative" has already been cut by $14,000 in the nearly 3 months it's been chilling on the market. It may be compact but the listing insists this property is still "comfortable".

4. 2232 11th St NW
Asking Price: $495,000
Square Feet: 1,054
What It's All About: Only on the market for a bit more than a month, the price has already been cut by $54,000. This building has two 1 bedroom apartments that require "some work & updating". This baby has investment property written all over it.

5. 1848 8th St NW
Asking Price: $599,000
Square Feet: 1,382
What It's All About: Blame it on the bad listing pics. The exterior of this 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath semi-detached home is bright and cheerful. Unfortunately, the interior pics don't capture that same vibe. With exposed brick in the living area, this Victorian has plenty of potential for the right buyer.
