Writer Thomas Friedman Speaks

Bethesda-based Thomas Friedman spoke about his new book, That Used to Be Us: How America Fell Behind in the World It Invented and How We Can Come Back. The book begins with a Metro-related anecdote where he compares a Chinese convention center he had just visited to the work going on at the Metro near his house. "I actually talked to the crew, and they told us [that the work] was going to take six months. The contrast of building a world-class convention center in eight months and taking six months to fix two escalators with 21 steps each kind of drove home the point." [BethesdaMagazine]
