Double Standards

In news that will make every sane person wonder huh, it turns out government entities are allowed to screw the environment. Whiting-Turner, the company modernizing Stoddert Elementary School, didn't apply for tree removal permits or replace the mature trees it cut down, because it claims it is a government contractor and those groups don't have to have Special Tree Removal Permits. There is some dispute over whether they are a regular contractors or a government entity, but either way the only entity that will end up damaged is the trees. [WBJ]
