Brookland is not yet a bona fide hipster neighborhood, but it might be after a bunch of artists move into the forty one new apartments created just for them. The Brookland Artspace building recently completed construction and is accepting applications for these affordable housing units reserved for people who make their living creatively but aren't rolling in dough just yet. For this project Artspace (a national organization) partnered with the local group Dance Place to make this $13 million arts campus a reality. Now that the building is largely finished, we can compare the reality to the rendering they proposed. Also check out the floorplans that were built with artists needs in mind—such as large open areas to accommodate large canvases.
