When Wanda Crossley saw this 175-year-old abandoned church that was infested with termites she thought, "What a perfect place to open a home-furnishings shop." It took a little under a year of elbow grease to turn the dark, damp church into the warm and inviting space it is today. Since the building, Matthews Home And Garden, is also where she runs her interior design business it was important the rooms be conducive to both creative brainstorming and running a company. You would never think this place used to house a congregation of mold and mildew instead of candles and fine linens. [WaPo]
