The trio that makes up R2L architects recently offered their thoughts on how to bring a modern aesthetic to all the old buildings they work on here in the district. One of the team, Sacha Rosen, got his start with historical preservation on a job that required installing a freestanding elevator (in a stone courtyard) for the presidential palace of Malta and outfitting the entire palace with wiring for Internet. So the office building built in 1913 that they're turning into a mix of retail and "micro-loft" units will be a piece of cake, huh? [Georgetowner]
